Ron Berning, Program Director
Prior to entering the nonprofit sector, Ron owned and operated agricultural, retail, and food service businesses in Oregon and Idaho for a combined 17 years.
Since selling the last of his businesses in 1998, Ron joined Agency for New Americans, a Boise-based refugee resettlement agency. While there, he held several leadership positions in its employment, sponsorship, cash assistance, and community resources divisions. In 2002, Ron helped launch META to provide micoenterprise services and microloans to refugees and soon expanded operations to include immigrants, women, minorities, and other disadvantaged entrepreneurs. As its director, Ron is primarily responsible for demographic and funding development and leadership of the program.
Ron is a past board member of the Downtown Boise Association and Idaho Human Rights Education Center. He was instrumental in creating Boise summer events Bite of Boise and International Food & Arts Festival. Ron received his Bachelor of Science degree from Oregon State University and in June 2004 he received his Master of Arts degree in Organizational Leadership from George Fox University.
